Artist Helen Frankenthaler, 1928-2011

Causeway

Helen Frankenthaler, one of my favorite artists, died yesterday. An amazing abstract expressionist artist, she lived through the art period that many abstract artists (me included) only read (dream) about. She married Robert Motherwell (also a fave of mine) and knew other amazing artists of the time; Jackson Pollock, Willem and Elaine de Kooning and Franz Kline.

Small's Paradise, 1964

Nature Abhors a Vacuum, 1973

Helen, you are missed.
Almost as beautiful as her work are these portraits of her by Ernst Haas. They are beautiful.

I have a huge empty space above my fireplace that would die to have any of these paintings. I think some inspiration paining is in order for me in the new year:)

Read a piece about her in Wall Street Journal and took a look at some of her pieces online. What an amazing abstract painter she was!

I was so sad to hear of her passing. I absolutely love her work, and that quote is fantastic.

She is also one of my favorite artists. She sure is missed, but her work will keep her memory alive.
