Besides being a successful, bilingual, sweetheart (not that I know first-hand, but she seems like it), hard-working woman, she really wants to be a mom. Instead of keeping her battle with her pregnancy issues private, she has chosen to live it out on her reality show, Giuliana & Bill. Which makes for great TV, and I'm sure it pays well, but it also shows "us regular people" that we are all just people. We all have issues. Two rounds of IVF, a miscarriage, and still no baby. Money can't buy a healthy pregnancy people. Any of us that want to be a mother, know how awful it must be to go through all of that. So does that make her "The Shit," well no. A lot of women go through that. But now the poor girl has breast cancer. She probably just feels like, WTF did I do? Why is this happening!?! And I'm sure she cries and screams at home, but publicly she's handled all of this with grace. She always seems her positive, happy, chipper self. The girl is all over twitter, and is so sweet and non-whiny about all this crap and she continues to work through all of it. And that is why I think she's The Shit.
I say all of this not knowing her personally, so this is just my impression. She just seems very genuine to me, like she'd be the same if you met her in person as she is on TV. I know a lot of women go through a ton of crap a lot worse than her, but it just reminds me to be mindful of what others are going through. You might have no idea that people have stuff like this going on in their lives because many wouldn't talk about it publicly. We always tend to think that famous, successful people have it all. And yes, money and connections I'm sure makes life a LOT easier in many ways, but her and Bill work hard for what they make, and I think that's great and something to look up to. But money, connections, and having your own TV show doesn't stop cancer or pregnancy issues.
So Giuliana, I think you are The Shit. You are due for some good karma.
*Update: So I just saw (via The Today Show) that she is getting a double mastectomy. Ugh. I know it's the best choice medically, but I hate that she has to do it.
