Interior Designer by Day / Blogger at Sacramento Street by Night

What does a typical day look like for you?
Since I have a 9-to-5 job as an interior designer my days are pretty routine but at night it definitely varies. Usually it consists of going to pilates to get my mind calm for the work I need to accomplish that night on the blog. Sometimes I try and go to events but because my office is close to work I rarely want to drive across town for an event. I’d rather have a night at home working so I don’t get behind schedule.

What parts of your job do you love?
I’ve always been a creative person. Everyday I’m challenged in the best possible way to use my creativity. From figuring out furniture layouts, to sourcing fabrics, to installing projects – it’s all so gratifying.

What parts of your job do you dislike?
Not a lot of people know this but being an interior designer it’s about 35-40% creative and then the rest is paperwork or phone calls with vendors. Although I don’t love this part, it has to get done in order to see the project come alive.

What type of calendar do you keep?
Everything is digital in outlook – all of my appointments, meetings, time that I block out for sourcing, time I give myself to blog, etc. It’s great to get alerts to remind myself that I need to do something.

How do you plan out your calendar?
I don’t really plan out my calendar – during the week its pretty routine but if Eric has night games (he works for the SF Giants) then I try to grab dinner with girlfriends so that we can catch up.

How do you organize your to-do list?
When it comes to my to-do list I don’t think I’ll ever go digital. I love handwriting all of my tasks out. And don’t even get me started on notebooks; I’ve got stacks of them that I can’t wait to use. I’m a little obsessed.

How do tackle your to-do list?
I break down my to-do lists into – work, blog, personal. It helps me see what I need to get done that week.

How do you tackle your never-ending email? Do you have a certain strategy you use?
Surprisingly, I’m horrible about organizing my emails. I wish I had some amazing strategy that I could share with all of you but I’ve never been able to figure out a good system for myself. I’m constantly telling my husband that I need someone to come in and tell me how to organize it all. If any of you have tips I’d love to hear them!

How do you get your blog posts organized and published?
It honestly depends on the week – sometimes I get a few done on Sunday, but usually I write up a plan for the week and then create the posts the night before. The latter is what typically happens since I like to give myself as much time off on the weekends.

When you are stuck on a project, how do you get out of the rut?
All I have to do is step outside and go for a little walk around my neighborhood. I live in such an inspiring neighborhood – the homes and scenery are amazing. If I walk to a certain spot I can see the entire bay with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It always reminds me that I live in such an inspiring city.

How do you GSD at home (decorating, kids, cleaning, etc.)?
Since I work at home at night on the blog it’s hard to separate time out to get things done around the house, but when I find that 30 minutes of free time or I need to step away from my computer all I have to do is turn on my Pandora, crank it up high and tidy up the house. But that’s not a deep clean – we have a cleaning lady that comes every month for that and she is the best. In terms of decorating I love changing things in our apartment. Since I’m an interior designer it’s nice to work on my own space where I don’t have to listen to what others want – I can do whatever I want. I do make it a point to try and cook every night that Eric and I are home together. It’s a time for me to step away from everything and just be me.

Everyone is on Instagram these days, but since I’m a visual person so this app is perfect for me.
I’ve never been the kind of person who buys music on iTunes so this is my way of adding my new favorite band and then getting a perfect playlist.
This helps me manage my twitter and my office’s twitter account.
Don’t know what I’d do without this app. It’s a courier service here in SF that will pick-up and deliver anything to you in under an hour. It’s amazing!
I’m new to this app and slowly starting to fall in love with it. It’s a walky-talky app that lets you communicate with your friends or coworkers. We use it for work a lot at my firm.

I’m addicted – borderline obsessed. If I’m in a rut at work or need to get inspired I know that I can go to Pinterest for 10 minutes and instantly find inspiration.
I recently moved over to Wordpress this summer and have never looked back.
Who doesn’t love using them? I’m constantly using it to send files or photos to people.
Google Docs
When I’m working on something that I’ll be sharing with others this is an amazing tool. We can even be in the doc at the same time and see real-time edits.

It’s a must for any blogger.

I LOVE Google Docs. It's where i keep all of my ideas & literally everything that pops up in my mind. I need to take the idea of setting up my week before & tackling it rather than each night!
